Without revealing too much about me (my wo3 de lao3 po2 doesn’t know about this website as I am not so sure how she would react to my mission statement. I definitely do not want to disappoint her should I not succeed in my initial mission)…

 

  • I have never learnt Chinese before – I guess I was learning so much about the culture, food and lifestyle itself that it left me with little thought for the Chinese language itself. My wife speaks excellent English so we have always conversed well in English.
  • I am near deaf (legally I am deaf). Thus you can imagine this shall make things more challenging for me especially when Mandarin hinges on 5 distinctive tones.
  • I can read and write music. I play the piano (self taught as my parents couldn’t afford to send me to music lessons).
  • My wife is Malaysian Chinese and I have two children.
